Contributor Guidelines
- Mission and audience: Edible Chicago is a print and digital publication that focuses on local food, drink, and agriculture in the greater Chicago area. our audience is interested in learning about local food culture, sustainable agriculture, and the people behind our food system.
- Types of content: We accept a variety of content types, including feature articles, profiles, recipes, essays, and photo essays. All content should be original and unpublished.
- Article length: Feature articles should be between 1,000 – 1,750 words, while profiles and essays should be between 500 – 1,500 words. Recipes should include a headnote and be no more than 350 words.
- Writing style: We aim for a friendly, accessible tone that appeals to a broad audience. We prefer lively writing that engages readers and brings life to the subject matter.
- Editing process: All submissions will be edited for style, clarity, and length. We will work with you to ensure your voice and vision remain intact while meeting our standards for publication.
- Photos: We encourage you to submit original photos to accompany your work. Photos should be high-resolution and in PNG format.
- Payment: We offer competitive compensation for accepted articles and photos. Payment rates will be discussed upon acceptance of the pitch.
- Submissions: Please submit your pitch to info@ediblechicago.com with “PITCH: XXXXX” in the subject line. Please include a brief author bio, contact information, and any previously published work you believe may be of interest to our team. We do our best to respond to all submissions within 4-6 weeks.
We strongly encourage contributors of all backgrounds to pitch; particularly queer, BIPOC, and writers early in their careers.

Usage Rights
Although ownership remains with the original creators, Edible Chicago retains exclusive usage rights until the print issue where content was included expires (three months) at which point our usage rights of published articles, photos and recipes reverts to Edible Chicago retaining a non-exclusive right to use in perpetuity with no additional fees.
